Space Anxiety

Endless hours of brainstorming and... Nothing! Until one morning on my way to college I decided I had to start somewhere. So I began to think what came into my head when I thought of Space... and what different spaces mean exactly. I got this idea to do a study of what different kinds of spaces, colours and textures around us can inflict different emotions and feelings on a person. I started painting, and painting wasn’t enough so I used charcoal on the canvas too and what I came up with was this...

The painting began to reflect a room of sorts (maybe a cell) the scratchings to the left of the canvas are a symbol of fear, panic and anxiety.

To the right of that reflects dark thoughts and confusion. Then as time moves on (and moving to the top right) there is ease, a sense of numbness and everything seems blank.

The Painting also works being viewed from different angles. At each turn a new aspect of the room is discovered be it a door or a wall or a birds-eye view of the room. I feel the canvas works best being placed on the ground so that viewers may circle the piece and have their own opinions.
